Fencing a pickleball court is not an aesthetic detail: it is what retains the ball in the playing area, secures the players and the neighborhood, neatly separates several courts and gives a neat image to a club, a town hall or a hotel. Depending on the use and location, we do not install the same thing: low containment fence, high bulletproof fence, windbreak or separation barriers between areas. This guide presents each type, its use cases, and especially the lengths and number of elements to provide for 1, 2 or 4 courts.
Why fence a pickleball court
Ball containment, safety and playing comfort
The pickleball ball is light and bounces a lot: without confinement, it quickly leaves the playing area and interrupts the exchanges. A perimeter fence limits comings and goings to collect balls, protects passers-by and nearby vehicles, and clearly marks the boundaries of the court. On a shared site (city stadium, multisport complex, school playground), it also avoids conflicts of use between activities and streamlines the rotation of players.
Neighborhood, noise and acceptance of the project
Pickleball generates a specific impact noise which can disturb nearby residents. The fence alone does not provide soundproofing, but it is part of an overall implementation and sound reduction strategy. Types of pickleball court fences
Low containment fence (1.0 to 1.2 m)
This is the most common solution on outdoor leisure and club courts. With a height of 1.0 to 1.2 m, made of plastic-coated galvanized steel (RAL color of your choice), it contains the vast majority of balls while remaining discreet. It is installed on the outskirts of the field with player access gates. This is the good compromise for a town hall, a campsite, a hotel or a club that wants a clean look without visually partitioning the space.
High bulletproof fence (3 to 4 m)
When the field hosts a competition, adjoins a road, a parking lot or a busy area, we go higher. A ballproof fence of 3 m (club level) to 4 m (competition level) in sports mesh stops high balls and outgoing lobs. It is close to tennis and padel standards, and is especially justified on exposed sites or sites open to the public.
Windbreak and privacy screen (windscreen)
By the sea, at altitude or on windy sites, a windbreak attached to the fence stabilizes ball trajectories and improves playing comfort. It also serves as a privacy screen and communication support (club colors, sponsors). We choose it in addition to the fence, not in its place. Personalized fence (custom branded)
For premium hotels, resorts and complexes, the fence becomes an image support: panels in brand colors, printed logo, high-end finish. It is a strong visual differentiator in photos and social networks, and an argument of attractiveness to customers.
Separation barriers between lands
Fixed separation barrier
As soon as you install several courts side by side, separation becomes essential to prevent balls from one court from disturbing the neighboring court. The fixed separation barrier, of the same height as the low fence (1.0 to 1.2 m), is sealed to the ground between two plots of land. It is the sustainable solution for outdoor clubs and complexes looking for a stable playing environment all year round.
Mobile separation barrier
In indoor, gymnasium or for events, we favor the mobile barrier: net panel stretched on a weighted base, without sealing, movable and stowable. It allows you to share a multi-sport floor without drilling into the slab and to reconfigure the space according to needs (training, tournament, other sport).
Custom separation
Like the fence, the separation barrier can be printed (court number, logo, sponsor). Useful for complexes that want clear signage and a professional look on their photos and broadcasts.
What length and how many barriers for my land
The quantities depend on the envelope retained around the official playing area (6.10 x 13.41 m). For a club, we generally work on an area of approximately 9 x 18 m. For precise dimensions and setbacks, rely on our guides todimensions of a pickleball courtand theminimum surface area required.

There is an average of one post every 2.5 m, or approximately 21 posts for a club field, and we subtract the width of the gates (approximately 1.2 m each) from the line of panels to be installed.

These values are orders of magnitude for framing an order. The final measurement is fixed on the mass plan, taking into account access, real setbacks and the location of the gates. Quick calculation method
To estimate your length in two minutes: measure the length and width of the desired area, multiply the turn by 2 (perimeter), remove the cumulative width of the gates, then divide by the installation pitch (2.5 m) to obtain the number of modules and posts. For several courts, add a dividing line per gap between two courts.
Choose wisely: materials and technical points
Material, height and wind resistance
For the outdoors, plastic-coated hot-dip galvanized steel remains the benchmark: it resists corrosion and offers a wide choice of RAL colors. The height is chosen according to use (1.0 to 1.2 m in confinement, 3 to 4 m in bulletproof). In coastal or mountain areas, check the wind resistance of the panels and possibly provide a windbreak. For public contracts, ask for galvanization certificates and expected mesh conformity.
Fixed or mobile, indoor or outdoor
Sealing on plates is suitable for permanent outdoor installation or on existing slabs. In a multi-sport room, the mobile version avoids drilling into the floor and preserves versatility.
